Boxwood Care: Protecting Your Boxwood in Autumn

The box trees of the Château de Losse Gardens

At the start of autumn, it's time to maintain your boxwood trees to ensure their good health and protect them against their worst enemies: fungi 🍄 and boxwood moths 🐛.

To do this, we need to strengthen their immune defenses so that they become more resistant.

Step one: clean the base of the boxwood.

Debris at the base of box trees can harbor fungi. Cleaning up all this debris will prevent its proliferation and also allow the soil to breathe.

Step two: Apply basalt.

A handful of basalt

Basalt is a volcanic rock very rich in trace elements and minerals, which will allow:

  • Regenerate humus

  • Promote the development of microbial life

  • Strengthen plant roots

  • Contribute to soil warming

All these natural properties will strengthen the immune defenses of boxwood and make them more resistant to diseases, pests and even drought.
